Ingredients

  • Masoor Dal – 1/4 Cup
  • Rice – 1/2 Cup
  • Turmeric – a pinch
  • Ghee – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Mixed Vegetables (Carrots, Potatoes, Peas and Beans) – 1 Cup
  • Cumin seeds or Cumin Powder – 1/2 teaspoon.

Directions To Prepare Masoor Dal Khichdi Recipe For Babies

  • Thoroughly wash the masoor dal and rice until the water is clear and let the dal soak for about 30-45 minutes.
  • Clean and chop all the vegetables into small pieces. Keep aside.
  • Warm some ghee in a pressure cooker. When the ghee heats up, add the tempering of cumin seeds and allow them to crackle.
  • Now, add all the vegetables, rice, and dal and sauté for a few minutes.
  • Add the turmeric and stir.
  • To the mixture, add about 3 cups of water and pressure-cook for four whistles.
  • Turn off the heat and allow the pressure cooker to cool.
  • Open the pressure cooker after the steam is released and check the consistency as per your desired level.
  • You may mash the khichdi with a spoon and if you want to thin it, add some hot water.
  • For added taste, you can add some more ghee, though we’d advise you to strictly avoid salt till your baby turns a year old.
  • Serve warm in a sterilized bowl.
