Pregnancy is the most beautiful phase in a woman’s life. However, it brings a lot of challenges to be coped with. Morning sickness is one such discomfort which comes along in the early pregnancy span. Change in hormonal levels, excess salivation during first trimester, changes in blood sugar level trigger nausea and a tendency to throw up frequently during pregnancy. For some, morning sickness is restricted to the first trimester only while for others this discomfort stretches all along the pregnancy. A few home remedies for dealing with vomiting during pregnancy have been discussed below. Intake of ginger in any form: – The anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties of ginger are extremely beneficial for curing various types of discomforts. Vomiting and its ill effects are taken care of by the anti-spasmodic properties of ginger. Gingerols and shogaols present in ginger also help relieve nausea, vomiting and morning sickness. Ginger may be consumed in any form.
Chewing of small pieces of raw ginger throughout the day at regular gaps.
Intake of ginger juice. Ginger may be grated and juice may be extracted out of it.
Having a cup of hot and refreshing ginger tea.
Ginger may be mixed with lemon juice and mint leaves paste for instant relief.
Peppermint: – This is one herb that is very helpful in reducing morning sickness. Peppermint reduces nausea and has a calming effect on the stomach. It brings down the body temperature and has a comforting effect.
Dried peppermint may be added to a hot cup of water along with honey and sugar and the strained drink may be consumed.
Few drops of peppermint essential oil may be sprinkled on a handkerchief and smelled onto whenever there is pukish feeling.
Peppermint leaves may be chewed upon.
Peppermint tea would be another option.
Sugar free peppermint chewing gums may be also be taken.
Lemon: – Lemon can also be a very useful remedy for vomiting. Soothing smell of lemon can have a comforting and calming effect on the body thereby preventing nausea and vomiting. Lemon not only acts as a remedy for controlling vomiting but also adds a lot of vitamins and minerals to the body and also keeps the body sufficiently hydrated.
Lemon juice may be added to a glass of water and consumed empty stomach to avoid morning sickness. Honey or sugar or chat masala may be added to the glass of lemon drink.
Lemon essential oil may be sprinkled on a handkerchief and smelled onto whenever there is a bout of vomiting.
Fresh lemon peels may also be smelled onto. The odour helps to ease out vomiting symptoms.
Apple cider vinegar: – Apple cider vinegar is of acidic nature. Its antimicrobial properties work well in removing all kinds of bacteria from the stomach thereby lessening nausea and vomiting. The content of acetic acid and the acid regulatory property helps women recover from morning sickness. Acute vomiting issues are best handled by intake of apple cider vinegar.
Small quantities of vinegar may be consumed from time to time.
A drink consisting of warm water, spoon of apple cider vinegar and honey may be consumed empty stomach to get rid of morning sickness.
Kiwi:- Consumption of kiwi fruits can aid the process of digestion thereby acting as a remedy for vomiting. Kiwis contain “actinidin”, a proteolytic enzyme which works very well on breaking down proteins. It also helps in keeping variations in blood pressure and sugar levels thereby restricting nausea and discomfort.
Kiwi fruit may be consumed with or without peel.
It can be blended into a smoothie or added to milk for delicious milkshake.
Cloves: – The inherent properties of cloves not only offer a solution to nausea but also work well diarrhea and indigestion problems. The ingredients of cloves work well in eliminating the pukish sensation in no time.
Clove buds may be sucked upon for eliminating nausea.
Cloves may also be boiled with water or tea and the strained drink may be consumed for reaping the benefits of cloves for getting rid of morning sickness.
