When Will My Pregnancy Begin To 'Show'_

Once your pregnancy is confirmed, what you enjoy the most is the attention, priority and helping hands you receive even from the people you don’t know. On a larger level, this could be possible only when your pregnancy begin to show. This article is for those who are awaiting a significant milestone of pregnancy – appearance of the baby bump.

When Does A Pregnancy Begin To Show?

It’s difficult to expect an accurate date when a noticeable little pregnancy bump can be spotted, as every woman is different in shape, size, height, muscle tone and age. Be that as it may, in most of the pregnancies, the uterus will start growing sooner or later around the 12th week of pregnancy to the 14th week of gestation. During this stage also, the bump may not be noticed by other people. But, the mother will realize this when she feels that her clothes have somewhat gotten tightened around the waistline.
But it is likely, that there won’t be much sign of an actual bump before 13 weeks. It calls for some time for the uterus and baby to grow large enough to have a nice, round belly associated with pregnancy. In most instances, the bump becomes round and more visible not much before 16 weeks when your uterus starts to stretch to accommodate the growing child.

What Are The Factors Which Decide How Soon I Will Start To Show My Pregnancy?

There are certain elements which might endure on how soon you begin to ‘show’ and look obviously pregnant and begin to buy maternity clothes:

      • The age of the mother: The woman’s age is an influential factor in determining when she starts to look pregnant. Young moms usually start displaying later than old moms. This is because young mothers are much more likely to have stronger muscular tissues around the abdomen that can hide their bump
      • First-time pregnancy or not: Subsequent pregnancies show earlier than first pregnancy. This happens because the fascia (a band of fibrous tissue) inside the abdomen have already been stretched in the course of first pregnancy and will be less tight during the subsequent pregnancies and move aside quite easily the second time around. Moreover, during subsequent pregnancies, the uterus set out larger than for the first pregnancy due to the stretching that has already happened.
When coming to the first time pregnant mothers, the abdominal muscles are relatively stronger and the pregnancy will not start to show until the uterus begin to grow up and out of the pelvis

    • Genetic factors: If the female relatives from the mother’s side of the family show a pattern of showing the bump (earlier or later), chances are more, that the new mom will also join their group
    • The size of the mother: An overweight mother with extra flab around the abdomen area will show the pregnancy bump only weeks later than a normally weighed mother. This is because the extra fats on the belly area hide the pregnancy. But as the baby grows the bump will start to show. This may take more or less than eighteen weeks of gestation
    • Multiple pregnancies: When the mother is pregnant with twin or triplets, her milestone for almost everything that happens in the course of pregnancy will be obviously earlier than a normal pregnancy. This definitely influences when the mother develops her baby bump. Twins or triplets (or more) require more room than singleton baby. Therefore, a mother pregnant with twins or more starts to show the baby bump during the first trimester itself
    • The physique of mother: When the pregnancy starts to show is always influenced by the physique of the mother. If the mother is tall and properly-built, her pregnancy usually starts to show three or four weeks after a mother who’s smaller and thinner
    • The position of the uterus: If the mother has a retroverted uterus (uterus inclined towards the rear of the hip), the pregnancy can hide for a little longer than the mother who has a normal uterus. Similarly, an anteverted uterus (uterus inclined forwards) may show off a little earlier than normal uterus presenting the mother a baby bump when she is in her first trimester itself

After giving birth, surveys conducted in this field point out that most of the mothers look back at their pregnancy period with feelings of nostalgia. Believe me, what the most of the new moms miss after delivery is their baby bumps. So enjoy these brief months when your baby grows inside your womb.
