What is Pudin Hara?

Pudin Hara is an Ayurvedic capsule, which is mainly used for the cure of indigestion and gastro intestine ailments.

The active ingredients of Pudin Hara are-

  • Mentha Piperita – Its common name is peppermint.
  • Mentha Spicata – It is generally known as spearmint.

So in case of chest burning with gas and acid, the menthol present in this peppermint and spearmint activates a special ion channel of a protein in our nerves. This activated ion channel gives us the feeling of instant coolness internally. This cooling effect thus soothes the dispelling gas, inflammation, and acid indirectly.

Generally, this ayurvedic product is harmless and has no distinct side effects, but it contains mint that is advised to avoid during the first trimester of pregnancy. The other factors are:

The Risks of Consuming Pudin Hara During Pregnancy

Pudin Hara does not have any adverse effects in general. But as we have already mentioned, it is the possible emmenagogue (stimulating menstruation) effects of mint that makes Pudin Hara a big no during the first trimester of pregnancy.

Even after the first trimester, an excessive amount of peppermint and spearmint is not safe. Thus you will have to take Pudin Hara in a limited quantity as prescribed by your doctor.

You will also have to avoid Pudin Hara if you have:

  • Gallbladder obstruction and gallstones
  • Kidney problems as excessive spearmint can increase the damage to the kidneys
  • Allergic issues with mints

So to conclude, we can say that Pudin Hara is comparatively safer than other allopathic medications for gas during pregnancy. As it is made out of 100% herbal ingredients, it has next to no side effects in general. But during pregnancy, you should be extra careful thus avoiding Pudin Hara for the first 3 months of pregnancy. After that, you can take a limited dosage after consulting with your doctor. India is the land of Ayurveda so trusting in an Ayurvedic product is completely justified.
