Your baby is nearing their first birthday in a few weeks. Their growth is rapid, they are quickly learning new skills and reaching new milestones. This means that they also need a lot of energy to meet their needs and keep them going. Lack of nutrition can hamper their growth in a big way. Though babies continue to be on breast milk, they will continue to be on solids too. Here are the key things you must know about the 10 month baby food.
At 10 months old, babies must eat solids in slightly higher quantities than the previous weeks. You must remember that feeding babies can be a challenge. Not all babies take to new foods easily. It is always a trial and error process. You may need to resort to tricks such as attractive presentations to make sure that your baby eats and gets the needed nutrition.

A 10 month old baby is extremely active and naughty. They seem to be always on the move and keep their whole family on their toes. The most difficult part at this time is to feed the baby as they always seem to be on the go and distracted. The easiest shortcut seems to be giving gadgets to babies during mealtimes to ensure they eat at least a couple of bites of food. But this must be strictly avoided.
At 10 months, the baby at this age is eating all types of food, yet getting 3-4 bottles of breast milk, breastfed or formula is equally important for their nutrition. The amount of calorie needed by the baby at this age is dependent on the weight. The baby should thus be given food from the entire food pyramid, covering all types of vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts, legumes, whole grains, eggs and non-vegetarian foods.
Your 10 month old baby needs a good supply of various nutrients such as protein, fats, carbs, iron, vitamins and minerals from the food they eat. Your baby was introduced to a host of foods in the past few months. Here are some food you can introduce to your 10 month baby.
In the past couple of months, you may have introduced most fruits to your baby. Just ensure that you give these foods regularly and introduce any fruits that you might have missed out on. It is a good idea to focus on seasonal fruits. Nature is wonderful. Season-specific produce contains all the specific nutrients that your body requires in that season. Moreover, they naturally grow in the weather, are not preserved and contain the highest level of nutrients and antioxidants.
You can ensure that your baby has watermelon, muskmelon, mangoes and lychees in summer. Blueberries and pomegranates grow during the monsoons and winter-specific fruits include pineapples, custard apples, figs and dragon fruit. Having seasonal fruits must be made a practice not only for the baby but for the whole family.

Along with all the vegetables introduced so far, you can also introduce mushrooms to your baby. Mushrooms are high in carb content providing all the energy your ever-active and on-the-learning-mode baby needs. Some types of mushrooms such as oyster are also high in protein. In addition, mushrooms are an excellent source of various minerals.
This is a good time to introduce lentils such as toor dal and soybean. Toor dal can be slightly difficult to digest for babies which is why it is introduced during later months once your baby has grown up a bit. The high protein and fiber contents provide all the energy necessary for your baby’s growth and development. Soybeans are excellent sources of protein, calcium, potassium, folate and fatty acids. Do remember to continue other previously introduced lentils as you introduce this dal-due.
Low mercury, locally sourced fish can prove to be very good sources of protein, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, and Vitamin B12. Always pick fish from trusted sources to ensure freshness and quality.
Apart from the above foods, you must continue giving the regular grains, cereals, paneer, cheese, millets, egg and other products that you have given them so far. Continuity is important for familiarity and food acceptance. Covering all food groups and including different variety of foods helps in maintaining nutritional balance in the body.
The food chart for a 10 month old baby must include food from all the groups for well-rounded nutrition. You must continue the non-vegetarian foods too. Remember, your baby still needs breast milk every day, at least twice or thrice a day.
The 10-month-old can munch on all types of food at this time. They need not depend only on bland, pureed, or boiled food. This is the time when some seasoning and spices can be added to his food. They can be given the same food as others in the family, only being careful that the food is safe for the baby.
Continue avoiding sweetening agents such as sugar, honey and jaggery till your baby at least a year old. You must also avoid goods that can cause choking and allergies. Any type of milk other than breast milk and formula must also be avoided. Keep junk food at a minimum. Avoid soft drinks, aerated drinks and packaged juices.
This is also the time to watch out for any choking issues. Finger food given to the baby should be in bite-size pieces, fruits should be thinly sliced, butter should be applied thinly, bread also should be sliced vertically and not in circular form. All vegetables given should be properly washed and cooked till they become soft.
A well-planned 10 month baby food lays the foundation for healthy growth and healthy food habits in the future. When introducing new foods, continue following the three day rule. Remember, a healthy baby is a happy baby and food plays a vital role here.

This is just a sample menu for a 10-month-old. You can vary the menu depending on your own baby’s needs. Make sure your baby gets 2–3 servings of fruit, vegetables, protein, and whole grains daily.
Your 10 month old baby is quickly approaching their first birthday. They need lots of energy to let them learn the skills and reach the milestones they are supposed. A balanced diet comprising of all food groups is the key to keeping your baby happy and healthy. Here is 10 month baby food feeding schedule:
Since you have introduced most of the foods from almost all the food groups, ensure that you continue repeating those foods and adding a couple of new foods here and there. Your baby’s dependency on milk gradually starts decreasing and your baby will derive most of their energy from solids. You will still continue to breastfeed your baby and continue for a few more months. As your baby turns 10 months old, here are some homemade food ideas you can try out.
Babies love cupcakes. These mini pieces of dessert can act as finger foods for babies. If your baby is bored eating the same foods every day, homemade cupcakes can be an excellent change for them. Baking cakes out of whole flour, using high-quality ingredients and leaving out sugars and other preservatives can make them a relatively healthy option for your baby. You can also add fruits to these cupcakes to give them natural sweetness and add to the flavor and nutrition quotient.
